Jennifer & Omar Wedding Photography

And here is the wedding! As mentioned in our previous post, Jennifer & Omar were married this past October. All the events leading up to this perfect day including the wedding were themed based on Omar’s proposal in Las Vegas. The same evening as the proposal the couple went to see the Beatles “LOVE” show and, as you will see, The Beatles were an undertone in all the centerpieces and colours including the famous catch phrase “All you need is love”. Each table setting had the word “love” in a different language. The main theme was “Royally in LOVE” as they got married at the King Eddy however, to keep the Beatles theme alive throughout the ceremony, the bridesmaids walked down the aisle to Black Bird and Jennifer, with her father, walked down the aisle to All You Need Is Love.

Just like the Bridal Shower every detail was taken care of including their massive savoury and sweets table. They had everything from popeye sticks, to fun dip, to saxon marshmallows and chocolate covered pretzels, to prosecco gummy bears brought in from Italy, to mini packs of nerds brought in from the Disney Store in NYC! They gave everyone little mason jars so they could reuse them once the wedding was done. And it didn’t stop at the savoury table where they had a fountain of cheese and gravy for the poutine station!

This was a wedding to remember and we at Xero would like to give a big thanks to Jennifer & Omar and their families for such a wonderful experience. Hope you enjoy the post!

Shoes and Hot Pink!

Jennifer and Omar were married in October and had several spectacular events leading up to their wedding including Jennifer’s Bridal shower. I had the pleasure of shooting this absolutely stunning shower this past July and, on a scale of 1 to 10 of the most elaborate showers I’ve ever seen, this one is a 15! This was all organized and put together beautifully by Jennifer and her mother including other key family members at the Ber Ber Lounge just below the Sultan’s Tent. Hot Pink and shoes were predominately the focus as everyone who knows Jennifer knows she adores shoes….and Hot Pink! Every table setting was named after a pair of shoes that Jennifer owned including the fabulous Valentino’s she was wearing that day. Even the guests’ place cards were a tiny shoe. I mean it when I say every detail was looked after.

As is custom for most Italian showers, all the aunts, cousins, grandmothers and great grandmothers prepare as many cookies as they possibly can for that one day. All the cookies were handmade specifically for the shower and each guest was given a basketful of goodies before they left. The day was filled with great food and entertainment. A big thanks to Pink Twig for their phenomenal floral design and to The Wedding Cake Shoppe for their creative skills with the shoe cake. Last but not least, thanks to Jennifer, Omar and their families for letting me be a part of their celebration. Great shower idea! And stay tuned for photos of the wedding!

Neena & Alex Wedding Photography

I first met Neena and Alex last year at our Markham office. They came in looking for a photographer for their engagement party and wedding reception that were being held in Toronto. Their wedding took place in India and by the time I saw them again after their engagement party, all their nuptials were complete. I absolutely loved Neena’s sari. She had it personally made to match the decor at the reception and, I have to say, this was one of the most colourful and beautifully decorated receptions I’ve ever seen. Karma Design Studio did an excellent job.

The night was filled with heartfelt speeches, and entertainment. Neena’s closest friends put together a special surprise routine for the both of them. Two of them also dressed up as Neena & Alex and reenacted how they first met. Everyone had tears in their eyes from laughing so hard! All in all it was a great day! Congratulations Neena and Alex, you guys looked great and our team had an awesome time working with you.

MeeLee and Daniel were married November 5th, 2011 on a beautiful fall day. Their wedding was so well organized that we had ample amount of time to fit in three awesome shoots. We started at their reception venue, the Panorama restaurant in the Manulife Centre. The climb up to the 51st floor was worth it just to take in the spectacular view. We then took a stroll down Bloor street and into the subway station where we captured the urban side of Toronto. One of my favourite shots of the day reminds me of the famous Marilyn Monroe image with her dress blowing up. From there we headed to the back alleys of the King Edward hotel where you can find classy yet funky backdrops. Moving onward to the Evergreen Brickworks changed up the look even more. All in all, it was great to have a lot of time to get the creativity flowing. It was also really nice for Meelee & Daniel to enjoy their day and take it all in. After all, how often do you get married? Congratulations MeeLee and Daniel, it was great working with you and hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did!

Ashley & Justin October 15th 2011

The forecast that day called for rain which can make couples nervous about their shoot, but it didn’t hold us back. The rain assisted our team in getting great creative wedding photos. Our team loves a challenge. It also helped that Ashley and Justin were up for anything.
Tip: Bride’s who aren’t afraid to get their dress a little dirty always get the best images .
I particularly love this shoot because of the downtown feel. We love the city of Toronto. It has been confirmed to us even more since our studio’s recent move into the heart of the city. We are looking forward to becoming even more acquainted with all the little hidden treasures that are everywhere in this city to shoot in.
It is obvious from the photos that they are totally in love. Just check out that “first look” sequence. When I was proofing their images, I felt like I was there watching it happen. I couldn’t help but smile to myself. The “look of love” never gets old.

Moving Day

I hope you all had a great holiday season and are getting back in to the swing of things. It looks as though Toronto, is waking up from it’s time off and the hustle and bustle is returning to the downtown core. You know how I know?! Because Xero Digital has moved to the city!!! We are now officially downtown Toronto Wedding Photographers and Videographers of course we are still serving all of the GTA wedding photography and cinema needs, but our new studio is now located downtown. So please don’t look for us in Markham any more but if you are looking for a Markham wedding photographer and were hoping to meet with us, don’t fret because our new studio is very easy to find. What A Wonderful Day!

This Sunday, will go down in Boyce history for me. It was one of the first Sundays in ages that Matt, who’s most likely the busiest wedding photographer in Toronto, had off and we celebrated our youngest son’s 1st Bday. He was also dedicated that morning in church and we had family here all the way from Australia, as well as a cousin who I haven’t seen in around 2 decades came by to visit before heading back to Newfoundland. How much “goodness” can one day take? A LOT!!!! I loved it. Here’s a couple photos from a perfect day!

We’ve Moved!

Hi Everyone,

I just quickly wanted to get the word out to everyone, that we are no longer located in Markham at 351 Ferrier St. Unit 5A. We are making the move down into the heart of the city at 41 Britain Street. Our studio will be ready mid January. In the meantime we needed to move out of our current location and for the next few weeks will be working remotely. We will still be conducting consultations Tuesday thru Friday 10-6 as well as offering evening appointments. If you’ve been looking for a Toronto wedding photograher and are inquiring for a wedding photograpy or wedding video services package, give us a call or an email and we will be happy to work out a time and place to meet with you and show you what we have to offer. Gisele & Brian’s 25th Anniversary Wedding Renewal

(We are so excited to finally be sharing a brand new same day edit with you. We have a few from this season and last that still haven’t made it on the blog. But rest assured if you come in for a consultation we’ll be more than happy to show you what we’ve been up to.)

This May we were privileged with being commissioned to capture the renewal of Gisele and Brian’s 25th wedding vows and celebration. We were especially excited because this is something that Matt and I have been discussing doing ourselves for some time and loved being able to witness a couple a little further down the road. I know that they had their first wedding video recorded and I can’t help but think that this edit will be an awesome addition to their family movie library. How amazing to have the continuance 25 years later documented with their beautiful children and family home. Not to mention the obvious love and admiration that you can see Gisele and Brian have for each other.

I Can’t Hear You

I love words. Some writers and speakers have the ability to string words together so eloquently that they have the power to make you think and even experience things in a way you never have before. I’m always playing songs for people and getting upset half way through when they start chatting with me, because I want them to get the “profoundness” (I even like making up my own words) of the lyrics. Rarely, do I find someone with the same passion for words as myself. There are some words however, that because of their repetition and monotony, just get old. Those two words are “sorry” and “love”. It’s sad because, I tend to think that these are probably the most important words in our language. We tend to use them so flippantly and so frequently that the weight of them gets stripped away.

I’m guilty of it myself. I tend to “love” a lot of things, starting with (but not ending with) the new shatter nail polish by OPI or the new Justin Bieber song, because I am a recent convert to his tribe and I am not ashamed…the list of “loves” goes on. Then there is that word, “sorry”. In kindergarten we were taught that that word pretty much fixes everything.

Spilled the milk?…”Whoops, sorry”

Smack your sibling in the face? Just, say “sorry” and you get an instant pass out of your room.

Many of us never grow past that, in spite of the fact that our offenses can be so much more offensive as we age. Nevertheless, we still use “sorry” as the duct tape to fix it. After all duct tape fixes everything right?! ( Not really. You try ripping duct tape off of your chest when trying to hold up “your girls” in a strapless dress and see if you think that’s a good solution!!!!)

Every weekend in the majority of Toronto weddings that we shoot, there is a famous passage of scripture in 1st Corinthians 13 that is either read by the officiant or family friend. It says “If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.” Those words have been flying over my head because it is so frequently quoted, but I spent time recently, thinking about it and wondering if the last time I said “love” in a purposeful way, if it actually rang true or was nothing more than a gonging or clanging in the soundtrack of our life. I believe that what makes the word “love” or “sorry” ring true is when our actions convey their truth. Our actions can be so much louder than the words that are coming out of our mouths. When what we do and how we behave does not support the phrases “I love you” or “I’m sorry” they hold little weight. Simply, because our actions have been screaming the opposite all day. That’s when our words are nothing more than a clanging or a gonging.
It’s cliche, but it’s true… Love is a verb and so is the word Sorry.

My Marriage Monday challenge to all of us is to make sure that our actions don’t drown out our words. I want my husband and everyone that I am in a relationship with to fully hear what I mean when I say “I love you” or “I’m sorry.

Here’s to making beautiful music in our relationships and not sounding like a bad percussion section in a high school band!
